DADA Lesson 2 - Unforgivable Curses « Thread Started on Aug 6, 2009, 5:46pm »
As Jessica leaned back against the front of her desk and looked out over her students she found herself wondering how her students would feel about that days lesson. For some people, the unforgivable curses made them squimish and left them feeling a bit sick to their stomach. These curses weren't exactly for the faint of heart and she remembered when she was younger she didn't particularly like this lesson. Her parents however had reveled in it. Her father especially seemed to enjoy the power that they gave him over other people and had spent more time teaching her these particular curses then he had spent in teaching her any other. It had gotten to the point that Jessica was an expert at all three curses before she'd graduated from Hogwarts. That didn't mean that she ever used the curses though. Her mentality was 'just because you can do something, it doesn't mean that you should.
"Hello everybody and welcome to your second lesson in defending yourself against the dark arts. Today we will begin with curses that I'm sure everybody is familiar with and those are the unforgivable curses." Jessica said as her eyes scanned over the faces of the students and wondered what was going on in their minds. She didn't know any of them al that well so really couldn't read them too well yet. She had no clue if any of them were feeling queasy at the thought of these curses or not. As Jessica reached for her wand she then pointed it towards the board where:
Unforgivable Curses
appeared. As she turned her attention back to her students Jessica smiled and asked: "Who can tell me what these curses names are? I don't want what they do or what the incantation is. I just want the names of the three curses that fall under the unforgivable group."

Leonie put her hand up, and shouted out. ''The Unforgivable Curses are the three most powerful and sinister spells known to the wizarding world, and are tools of the Dark Arts. They were first classified as Unforgivable in 1717. Using any of these three curses on another human being carries a mandatory life term in Azkaban.'' She immeadiately whacked herself in the head with her sweaty palms. ''I'm sorry, I mean, Avada Kedavra, The Cruciatis curse, and the Imperius Curse.'' Leonie looked at the professor, scared that she might get sent out of class for not following the instruction. She knew that she had said too much, and pressed her lips together. She was thinking that the Professor was hopefully not thinking that she was trying to be the best of the class, or, by any means, outsmart her. She respected her teachers, Professor Black especially, since she was married to a Gryffindor. She hoped that one day, Leonie might follow in her footsteps, be just like her, for marrying her enemy, someone who she shouldn't be married to. She waited for the Professor to answer, her heavy breathing increasing.

Jessica looked towards Leonie as she began to answer the question and had to resist the urge to roll her eyes and sigh in frustration. If there was one thing that annoyed her about Ravenclaw's it was the fact that they always had to spout out more of an answer then was needed. All Jessica had asked for was the name of the curses. Now because of Leonie giving off more information that was needed it meant that she had taken away a chance for herself or for somebody else to get points for their house. Mentally shaking off the annoyance, Jessica merely smiled and nodded at her young student.
"Nearly correct Miss Ungern. Three points to Ravenclaw." Jessica said as she looked over at her other students. One of the names that Leonie had given her was incorrect but Jessica wanted to see if any of her other students could pick out which name it was. As she looked out over the other students in her class Jessica asked: "Can somebody else tell which of those three is incorrect and why?"

Christian had been about to raise his hand when Leonie began to answer. He smiled slightly at her for going way too fast and giving a lot more information then was needed but that was typical of a Ravenclaw. They had so much information they wanted to try and get it all out there. When Leonie began to name the curses though Christian unconsciously winced when she said the killing curse was called Avada Kedavra. Avada Kedavra was the actual curse a person had to say but it was called the killing curse on it's own.
When the professor asked for who could point out where Leonie had gone wrong, Christian automatically shot his hand up in the air. When he was called on he said: "The Imperius and Cruciatus were correct but Avada Kedavra is the actual spell itself. The name of the curse is the Killing Curse."
Smiling at the professor, Christian looked towards Leonie with a smile before turning towards the professor again. Either way Ravenclaw still got the points so he was happy about that.

Leonie went as red as her hair when Christian smiled at her. What a silly mistake! She should have remembered that! It was good she was taking this class, she needed it to become an Auror when she grew up. She must remember not to give out so much next time, she knew that it annoyed her teachers whenever a ravenclaw did that. Still, Leonie was happy that ravenclaw got the points. She listened to the professors beautiful voice. She loved learning about the unforgivable curses, she was very aware that each student responded differently to the subject. Personally, Leonie loved it. But Leonie pretty much loved learning about anything anyway. She listened eagerly, as the teacher went on...

Ruby tapped her fingers on the desk. She winced at the mention of the unforgivable curses and bit her bottom lip. She silently noted each one in her head. Why did they have to learn something so gruesome and so close to her heart. She blinked and brushed some stray blonde tendrils from her face. Her green eyes looked glazed over as she stared into space as usual. She had to get through this class though, no matter how much it pained her.
Dean: I know what you're thinking: Why did it have to be clowns! Sam: Gimme a break. Dean: You didn't think I remembered, did you. Come on, man, you still bust out crying when you see Ronald McDonald on the television. Sam: At least I'm not afraid of flying. Dean: Planes crash! Sam: And apparently clowns kill.
Ruby glanced at the Griffindor. At least she wasn't the only one who winced at the curses being mentioned. She felt slightly relieved at this fact. Tears threatened to fall but she wouldn't let them, not now anyway, somewhere so public. Why did they have to learn about this, it was a cruel, sick joke.
